free shuttle separate sinks made omelets
the free shuttle into the city center was convenient. my room had two separate sinks and a rainfall shower, a nice touch. the breakfast buffet offered many options, including omelets made to order (they were great!).
the corridors to the rooms in the pink building seemed a bit dark.

charmed by classic elegance
delicious items suite size
The breakfast buffet offered a wide variety of delicious items. our room was a large suite, complete with river views. i liked complimentary wine provided upon arrival. It was a nice touch.
housekeeping knocked early, around 9 am, every day and this woke us. the extra door card always disappeared from the wall socket. it caused the room to be too hot when we returned.

the pool area was spacious , providing ample room to relax. the sunsets viewed over the douro were beautiful. the building where the lobby is located was like a step back in time.
the main sitting area felt small considering the number of guests.

Acceptable, but Some Issues Need Addressing
late night party dated decor
The hotel's location provided acceptable access to the river and surrounding areas.
The noise was a significant issue. Parties continued late into the night. This impacted my ability to relax (what a shame, I needed the rest). the room decor felt dated, it had brown and green colors that looked like 70's style.

historic paintings relaxing pool sauna warm vegetables
i especially loved the countless historic paintings and sculptures throughout the building. the relaxing indoor pool featured a sauna which i used daily. i also appreciated the breakfast with various warm vegetables. i found the hotel beautiful and unique.

The staff were helpful and attentive (they even upgraded my room upon arrival). The breakfast featured a vast selection with a wide variety of items on the buffet.
The main sitting area feels somewhat small given the extensive unutilised space throughout the hotel.
